If you are
looking for the perfect location for a family
holiday or simply an opportunity to wind down
and get away from it all for a few days, the
popular Cornish seaside village and harbour of
Mevagissey is the place for you.
Situated
on the south coast of Cornwall facing into the
English Channel. Mevagissey lies in the Gulf
Stream, which flows up from the Caribbean and
ensuring a mild climate throughout the year.
Mevagissey
is located just 6 miles south of St Austell
with its mainline train station and regular
connections to Plymouth, just 45 miles away.
Newquay airport with its links to London
and elsewhere is just 22 miles away and
Plymouth Airport some 45 miles away. With
superb road connections (either the A30 or A38
from Exeter), travel to Mevagissey is easy and
convenient.
The
village has many restaurants where you may
enjoy the local catch of the day and of course
the traditional British Fish and Chips is also
highly recommended. There are also a variety
of restaurants where you can sample dishes
other than seafood. There are lots of
interesting pubs with beamed ceilings and real
ale, once the haunt of smugglers . . . The
village is also home to an array of collectors
and gift shops which you can spend the day
browsing.
Mevagissey
is the ideal base for walkers, bird watchers
and botanists. Cornwall enjoys short winters
and the Mevagissey climate is mild all year
round so you will find that the flowers bloom
earlier than many other places. There are many
breathtaking walks along the cliff paths that form part of the South West Coastal Path - the
perfect base for many coastal activities such
as walking, bird watching, botany and
exploring nearby bays, coves and beaches.
One
of England's last traditional fishing
villages, Mevagissey offers deep-sea angling
and shark fishing trips from the harbour. You
can also take a trip on the Mevagissey to
Fowey on the passenger ferry.
Within
a short drive, there are many attractions and
some major, internationally renowned, gardens.
We have provided a comprehensive review of the
available attractions and activities in
Cornwall and with Mevagissey being so ideally
placed, all are accessible for a day trip out.
